Reading -The Cay, E-portfolio Sample - Comprehension

Write an “ITTM” for the following sentences:

After a moment of silence, I heard the sizzle of the water as Timothy doused the torch.

I think that means… that after a while of no sound Phillip heard a sight sound coming from the water as Timothy put out the fire.

For more than a week, I knew he had been labouring over nails to turn them into fish hooks.

I think that means…. for more than 7 days , Phillip knew he had been working really hard to keep his fingernails long so he could catch food with them.

Roadblocks! There were many roadblocks for us in this book! Choose at least two of the following words to explain and ‘clear
the roadblock’ for.

Alabaster -A see though white rock formed into different shapes and sizes. e.g ball etc.

Cay - A island made with a low reef and lots of sand and trees.
Jumbi -Jumbi means Bad luck.

Langosta -

Malaria - A very bad fever.

Write down at least three things Phillip learnt whilst on the cay (for example, about himself, caring for others and life etc)


1. Phillip learnt how to look after him self.
2. Phillip learnt to appreciate what he has because its not always going to be there.
3. Phillip learnt how to fish and climb trees while he was blind.
